Among the most challenging situations for school professionals are the moments when a student feels suicidal. It’s not just intensely difficult and emotional for the students, but also for the families and the supports in the child’s life.

LifeWork, LLC, a group therapy practice in Saint Louis, has more than a decade of experience in treating children and adolescents who struggle with suicidal thoughts, self-harm behaviors, and intense emotions. LifeWork specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based treatment that helps people reduce painful feelings and risky, impulsive actions.

This training will ask professionals to assess their own beliefs and experiences in working with our most vulnerable youth. It will provide current research about youth suicide and examine why young people turn to suicide and self-harm. Attendees will learn methods to de-escalate stressful moments for both students and school staff, as well as the skills in the DBT curriculum related to mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

CEU's are available for LPC and LCSW certification upon completion of the full 12 hours.
